Role Summary

Brookes Sport, Oxford Brookes University RFC (OBURFC) and Oxford Harlequins RFC (OHRFC) formed a new rugby partnership in July 2020, the Brookes Quins Partnership. A key pillar of this partnership is developing Performance Women’s Rugby in Oxford.This position is being advertised by Oxford Harlequins RFC as the employer.

Head Coach Women’s Rugby, Brookes Quins Partnership is a newly designed role that will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and delivery of a transformational coaching programme for the Partnership’s Women’s Rugby Programme

  • The Head Coach will develop a successful high performing team environment that maximises resource and capacity across the partnership
  • The role will provide exceptional leadership that complements the strategic leadership of the Brookes Quins Rugby Partnership
  • The Head Coach will develop and maintain appropriate player and coaching programmes, utilising technology, and personnel to ensure that Women’s rugby develops to the forefront of BUCS and RFU competitions whilst bringing constructive challenge and innovation to the partnership’s performance department
  • Ensure the development and delivery of a high-quality Women’s rugby programme and Performance Plan, which includes skill, tactical and technical development based on detailed performance reviews (including video analysis and classroom sessions) and data analysis whilst delivering on-field performance success in targeted tournaments and competitions

Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities. 

       - Deliver exceptional and successful team performance

       - Deliver individual player development

       - In conjunction with the Partnership Directors of Rugby, plan, organise and implement a comprehensive high-performance coaching programme for the Partnership Women’s Programme

     - Direct, oversee and lead on field delivery through a sound coaching approach that recognises current coaching trends

- To support and contribute to the delivery of the female rugby strategy, working with the Partnership Directors of Rugby to ensure the Brookes Quins Women’s Performance Programme achieves success in alignment with the 5-year strategic plan

- Devise and implement the strategies for promotion and success of the Partnership Women’s 15s and 7s teams based around key milestone events with long-term sustainability at the forefront of all plans, working closely with Partnership Directors of Rugby



      - In conjunction with the Partnership Team, establish and maintain a performance culture that drives excellence from players, coaches and support staff

- Work with the Partnership Team to achieve and maintain productive, progressive and harmonious relationships with all stakeholders, including Brookes Sport, OBURFC, OHRFC and Oxford University Women RFC

      - Support the recruitment of players across the women’s programme

      - Develop, deliver, and regularly review the Brookes Quins Women’s Player Development Curriculum and work with the Coach Education staff to ensure effective dissemination of this to support the growth of the female game

      - Design, coordinate, implement, evaluate, and record the effectiveness of all individual, unit and team developments

- Engage with Partnership staff and Brookes Quins skills coaches as and when required to support the programme

    - Facilitate the identification and development of new student coaches within the partnership

    - Support relevant off-field developments as agreed by Brookes Quins Partnership management

- Consult with the partnership S & C Lead on specific physical development programs for squad players with regular liaison with S & C coaches on physical program for squad players

- Ensure the integration of individual player development plans through the programme with a clear review process for all individual players

     - Compile an end of campaign/season program review in conjunction with the Partnership Directors of Rugby

- Carry out duties in support of the Brookes Quins Partnership Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values

Experience & Knowledge

- Significant experience of working in a High-Performance Sport environment

- Understanding of performance strategies that have facilitated success at a performance level such as Women’s Premiership Rugby

- High level understanding of systems that support high performance environments

- The ability to create and embed a world-class high-performance culture and to lead by example

- Experience of working in a female centric environment is desirable

- Experience in a Senior leadership role, influencing strategic decision’s leading staff to implement operational targets is desirable

- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management

Skills & Qualifications

- Experience and expertise in a high-level Women’s rugby environment

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential

- Ability to build successful partnerships and maintain and improve relationships

- Self-starter with proactive attitude

- RFU England Coaching Award (or Level 2) and the intention to work towards Level 3 is desirable

- Valid UK driving licence is required
